ANDERSON, IN – Three officers from the Anderson Police Department saved the life of a victim that had been stabbed in the stomach.
Officers Brian Gehrke, Brandon Taylor, and Caleb McKnight responded to a call of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival officers found the victim with a stab wound to the stomach who was bleeding profusely.
Not knowing if the suspect was still in the area, the officers immediately began to administer first aid and applied direct pressure to the victim’s injury, slowing the bleeding. The officers also used bandages from their own medical kits to dress the victim’s wound.
In addition, the officers were able to make sure the scene was safe so paramedics could transport the victim to the hospital.
The victim was rushed into surgery and survived his injury. The attending trauma surgeon credited the officers’ lifesaving actions with the survival of the victim.
Anderson Police Chief Jake Brown presented the three officers with the department’s Life Saving Award.
The suspect in this case was later found and arrested.
