LISLE, IL – A Lisle Police Officer is credited with saving the life of a 14-year-old boy trapped inside a burning house.

Lisle Police Officer Bill Wise responded to an apartment complex where a fire was burning in one of the units. Upon his arrival, bystanders frantically told Office Wise that a 14-year-old boy was trapped inside the basement of the burning apartment.

Officer Wise forced entry into the home, but was overcome by smoke and flames. Officer Wise had to exit the home and ran around to the rear where he was able to open a window to the basement.

Once the window was open, Officer Wise was unable to make entry due to furniture and other items blocking the window. Officer Wise was able to quickly remove the items and made entry into the window. Once inside, Officer Wise was able to pull the boy to safety.

Officer Wise and the boy were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Officer Wise was later transported to the hospital for additional treatment and was later released and is home recovering.

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District extinguished the fire and an investigation into the cause is underway.

Thank you for your service Officer Wise. You are a true hero.
