HOWARD COUNTY, MD – A Howard County Police officer is credit with saving the life of a 15-year-old boy who was choking.

Officer Jason Gago responded to a call for a boy who was having trouble breathing. Upon arrival, Officer Gago met with the family who advised the boy is autistic, non-verbal, and was choking on a piece of food.

Officer Gago attended to the boy who was turning blue and not breathing. Officer Gago began the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the piece of food that was stuck in his throat. Due to his quick actions the boy was able to breath again and was transported to the hospital for check-up.

The boy has made a full recovery.

The Howard County Police Department said in a Facebook post that, “In some cases, officers arrive to a call before paramedics and must perform live-saving measures. We commend PO Gago on his excellent police work in this case!”

Thank you for your service Office Gago. You are a true hero.
