Two deputies for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi were struck by a vehicle as they worked a checkpoint in Hamilton, Mississippi.
Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook told the Monroe Journal that, “There were four deputies at a checkpoint on Hamilton Road near Seely Drive, and two were struck by a vehicle. As far as the accident itself, the highway patrol is conducting the investigation, and it’s still under investigation, but it appears to be an accident.”
Deputy Dylan Pickle was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Deputy Zack Wilbanks underwent surgery for a broken leg and head injuries.
“We just need continued support, people letting us know they’re there. We greatly appreciate that, especially prayers,” Crook said. “It’s been an outpouring. We appreciate everyone’s support.”
Deputy Pickle was a veteran of the Mississippi National Guard, ODMP reported.
We wish Deputy Wilbanks a speedy recovery and we are sending prayers to the family and friends of Deputy Pickle.
Thank you for your service Deputy Pickle. You are a true hero.
