A King County Sheriff’s Deputy was being choked by a drunk hit and run suspect when five young men came to her aid.

An off-duty King County, WA Sheriff’s Deputy was on her way home when she was flagged down by a motorist who was involved in a traffic crash. Deputy Elliott checked on the occupants to make sure they were OK and was told the person who caused the crash was intoxicated and trying to walk away from the scene.

Deputy Elliott ran over to the male and tried to stop him from leaving. According to a Facebook post by the King County Sheriff’s Department, the male immediately turned around in a fighting stance with his arms up in the air. A struggle began and at one point Deputy Elliott was able to get the suspect onto the ground and call for help on her radio.

That’s when the suspect wrapped his arm around her neck, put her in a choke hold, and began squeezing. As Deputy Elliott struggled to get away, a group of five young men ran over yelling, “Get off of her.”

The men then jumped on the suspect and wrestled him off of Deputy Elliott. The men held the suspect down while the deputy handcuffed him.

Deputy Elliott sustained scrapes and bruising but thankfully she was not seriously injured. We cannot thank these five young men enough for coming to Deputy Elliott’s rescue. They quite possibly saved her life.
