Tyree Ward was spending an evening with his family at the Wildwood Beach in the Philadelphia area when suddenly he heard screams for help. According to WPVI 6, a 20 year old woman was screaming for help because she was being pulled out to sea and was drowning. There were no lifeguards on duty at the time.

Tyree wasted no time and immediately jumped into the water, swam out to the woman, and brought her back to shore.

“He saved her life, absolutely,” says Wildwood Fire Chief Ernie Troiano III.

When time is of the essence, his timing was impeccable. He was truly in the right place the right time, and he had what it took to get the job done. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t wait to call for help. He sprung into action and it was truly a lifesaving measure.

The Wildwood Fire Department presented Tyree with some souvenirs as a sign of their appreciation.

The 20 year old woman, Katie Stonehill said, “He was put in that spot for a reason. I can’t say thank you enough.”
