MIDDLETOWN, NY – Police Officer Evan Barone, who was shot in the arm last week, was released from the hospital and is home recovering,

Middletown Police Officer Evan Barone was flagged down by a female, on Saturday, August 29, who advised she was having a domestic dispute with her ex-boyfriend. The woman advised that the ex-boyfriend showed up at her home uninvited, and was refusing to leave. The woman advised the male was armed with a gun.

As Officer Barone was speaking with the woman, the male exited the home, drew a 9mm handgun, and fired at Officer Barone without warning. Officer Barone was struck in the left forearm and immediately returned fire, striking the male suspect.

Officer Barone called for backup and officers from the Middletown Police Department, New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Wallkill Police Department all responded.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder in the first degree.

Officers on scene provided treatment to Officer Barone and he was transported to the hospital and underwent surgery.

On Wednesday, Officer Barone was released from the hospital and at least 100 officers from surrounding agencies gathered at the hospital to honor Officer Barone and wished him a full recovery as he was discharged and sent home.

Thank you for your service Officer Barone. You are a true hero. We wish you a full and speedy recovery.

We are eternally grateful to all of the departments that came out today to support Officer Barone as he was released from the hospital. We appreciate your presence more than words can say! đź’™
