GRAHAM, WA – An on duty deputy and an off duty officer worked together to save the life of an 11-year-old girl who was trapped inside of a burning vehicle.

Deputy Wiggins from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol Saturday, when he came upon a traffic collision with one of the vehicles on fire. Deputy Wiggins immediately ran towards the vehicle and saw that an 11-year-old girl was unconscious in the back seat. Deputy Wiggins tried to open the doors, but they were jammed shut due to the collision and the fire was starting to spread.

Commander Todd Rossi of the Tukwila Police Department was off duty and happened upon the crash scene. Commander Rossi did not waste anytime and sprung into action, smashing out the windows and using a knife to cut the child from her seat belt.

Together the officers pulled the girl from the vehicle and seconds later the vehicle became completely engulfed in flames.

Due to the quick actions of the officers, they were able to save the life of a child.

Thank you Deputy Wiggins and Commander Rossi. You are both true heroes.
