Deputy saves man trapped under a car

A Hampton police officer is a life saver, not once, but twice, and all within eight days.

JACKSON COUNTY, KS – Jackson County Deputy Sheriff Chad Ballenger received a call Saturday night about a man who was trapped under a vehicle that fell on top of him. The man’s family called the police when they noticed their dad was stuck beneath a vehicle he had been working on.

When Deputy Ballenger arrived on scene, he noticed the man was barely breathing due to the weight of the vehicle on his chest. Deputy Ballenger was able to use a jack to lift the vehicle off the victim.

The man was transported to Topeka hospital where he made a full recovery.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said in a press release, “The outcome of this incident could have turned very tragic, I am very appreciative of Deputy Ballenger’s quick thinking and the calmness he brought to a very tense situation. Deputy Ballenger was able to provide lifesaving instructions to those on the scene, communicate with the victim at the same time, and rescue the victim from death.”

Deputy Ballenger is an example of the brave men and women of the sheriff’s office who put their lives on the line each and every day for their community.

Sheriff Tim Morse
